Hungarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Either from the same Proto-Finno-Ugric *toβkɜ (spring)[1] as Finnish touko, or related to Turkic forms such as Chuvash tu-, tăv- or Nogai tuv- ´to be born, to give birth´.[2] Hung. tavasz (tava- root + -sz affix) has an original meaning ´birth´.[2]
