From Oghur, from Proto-Turkic *tāna, possibly of Iranian origin, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰa(H)inúš.

Compare Chuvash тына (tyna, heifer), Turkish dana (calf, steer), Sanskrit धेनु (dhenu, (milk) cow).
