Etymology[edit]

From the similarity of the control lever in early designs to a toggle.

toggle switch (plural toggle switches)

  1. A switch actuated by moving a small lever; usually an on/off switch with two positions.
  2. (graphical user interface) A control resembling such a switch, allowing a setting to be enabled or disabled.
