English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

trans + *, as used as a wildcard in programming.

Adjective[edit]

trans* (comparative more trans*, superlative most trans*)

  1. Alternative form of trans
  2. An umbrella term that refers to all the identities, other then cisgender, that are within the gender identity spectrum.

Usage notes[edit]

The umbrella sense of this word is not always spelled with an asterisk. But when the asterisk is used it serves as a placeholder for identities, other then cisgender, that are within the gender identity spectrum (transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, genderfluid, third gender, two-spirit etc).
