Latvian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

A 19th-century neologism, coined from turp (further) +‎ -ināt, by A. Kronvalds in 1872. He also coined the derived term turpinājums. At first referring only to the continuation of written texts (e.g., the continuation of stories printed in a magazine), this word soon had its meaning broadened to other areas.[1]
