Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *tï̄n,[1] whence also Azerbaijani dincəlmək (to rest) and dinc (quite, peaceful). Cognate with Bashkir тынсыу (tınsıw), Tatar тынчу (tınçu), Kazakh тыншу (tynşu, stuffy, poorly ventilated), Kumyk тунчукъ (tunçuq, stuffy, poorly ventilated).
