From Proto-Balto-Slavic *óʔgaʔ, probably from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ogeh₂-. Cognate with Latvian oga, Russian я́года (jágoda), Gothic 𐌰𐌺𐍂𐌰𐌽 (akran).
