Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *wīdza, from Proto-Indo-European *winǵos (compare Lithuanian vìnkšna, Polish wiąz), variant of *wiǵo (compare English wych elm, Northern Kurdish bizî). Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *widʰu-, in which case it could be linked with Old Dutch widu, Old Norse viðr (Danish and Swedish ved).

Noun[edit]

vidh m (plural vidha, definite vidhi, definite plural vidhat)

  1. English elm (Ulmus procera)
  2. European nettle tree, hackberry (Celtis australis)
