Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish یالوارمق (yalvarmak), a derivation of Proto-Turkic *yāl- (to ask, require; to hire, lease; servant; envoy).

Cognate with Azerbaijani yalvarmaq, Kazakh жалбару (jalbaru), Southern Altai јалбар- (ǰalbar-, to beg), Tuvan чалбарыыр (çalbarıır).
