Etymology[edit]

From Middle English ȝode, ȝede, eode, from Old English ēode, from Proto-Germanic *ijj-, a suppletive past tense form to Proto-Germanic *gāną (to go), and further from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ey- (go). Cognate with Latin (go), Russian идти (idti, go).
