Etymology[edit]

Origin unknown. Possibly of expressive origin. Other theories provide difficulties: from Slavic burda; from Vulgar Latin *exvǒlĭtāre, alternatively from *abhorrĭdus; based on bord; or, from German Bürde.[1]
