Borrowed from Proto-Tsezian *gurV, from Proto-Northeast Caucasian *gwä̆lV.[1] Doublet of гила (gila). Cognates include Ingush говр (govr, horse), Tsez гулу (gulu), and Hinukh гулу (gulu).
