From Proto-Turkic *yalaŋ (steppe).

Also related to Proto-Turkic *yạlïŋ (naked). (if the two reconstructed forms are indeed separate from each other)

Cognate with Old Uyghur y՚l՚nk (jalaŋ, bare, naked), Southern Altai јалаҥ (ǰalaŋ, field), Tatar ялан (yalan, field), Uyghur يالاڭ (yalang, bare; single).
