Etymology

From Proto-Semitic *zarʕ- (“seed”). Cognate with Akkadian 𒆰 (zērum, “seed”), Arabic زَرَعَ (zaraʕa, “to sow”), زَرْع (zarʕ, “seed”), and Aramaic זְרַע (zəraʿ, “to sow”), זַרְעָא (zarʿā, “seed”).
