Yiddish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Hebrew פָּסַק (pasák, decide, rule) +‎ ־ן (-n, occupation marker). The theoretical intermediate noun form *פּסקן (*paskn, decisor) seems to have remained unused in favor of פּוסק (poysek).

פּסקענען (paskenen) (past participle געפּסקנט (gepasknt))

  1. to decide, adjudicate, rule, especially on matters of Jewish law
