أَسْرَفَ (ʔasrafa) IV, non-past يُسْرِفُ‎ (yusrifu)

  1. to be extravagant, wasteful
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 6:141:
      كُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦٓ إِذَآ أَثْمَرَ وَءَاتُوا۟ حَقَّهُۥ يَوْمَ حَصَادِهِۦ ۖ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ
      Eat of the fruit they bear and pay the dues at harvest, but do not waste. Surely the Lord does not like the wasteful.
