Inherited from Sanskrit स्वर्ग (svargá, heaven, paradise; celestial abode of light; abode of Indra), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *suHargás, from Proto-Indo-European *sh₂ul-gʷḿ̥-s (going to the sun). Cognate with Urdu سُرَگ (surg, heaven).
