Persian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably a loanword from Northwestern Iranian. Compare Gazi مکامن (mekāmun, to suck). Ultimately from Proto-Iranian *maič- (to suck), which has no clear Indo-European etymology. Doublet of مزیدن (mazidan, to taste), which was inherited from Middle Persian [script needed] (myc- /mēz-/, to suck) from the same root.[1]
