Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Parthian 𐫐𐫓𐫀𐫗 (klʾn /kalān/, “great, big; pure”). Related to Tat kələ (“great, big”) and the Armenian toponym Կաղանկատոյք (Kałankatoykʻ, literally “big habitation”). The ultimate origin is uncertain.
