Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀢𑀸𑀭𑀡 (tāraṇa), from Sanskrit तारण (tāraṇa). Cognate with Gujarati તારણ (tāraṇ). Compare the tatsama Hindi तारण (tāraṇ).
