Bengali[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The spelling is owing to confusing (o /ɔ/) with (ō /o/): given that the former is realised as [o] due to vowel harmony when followed by /i/, /u/ in the next syllable.[1]

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (Rarh) IPA(key): /ɡoɾu/, [ɡoɾuˑ]
    (file)
  • (Dhaka) IPA(key): /ɡoɹu/, [ɡoɹuˑ]
    (file)
