Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit *𑀯𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀙𑀸𑀬𑀡 (*vicchāyaṇa), from Sanskrit *विच्छादन (vicchādana, “covering”), from वि- (vi-, prefix indicating distribution) + छद् (chad, “to cover”) + -अन (-ana, nominal suffix). Cognate with Sylheti ꠛꠤꠍ꠆ꠘꠣ (biśna), Assamese বিছনা (bisona), Odia ବିଛଣା (bichôṇa), Maithili बिछाओन (bichāōn), बिछौना (bichaunā), Marathi बिछाना (bichānā), Hindi बिछाना (bichānā, “carpet”). Doublet of বিছানো (bichanō).
