Borrowed from Classical Persian رمضان (ramazān), from Arabic رَمَضَان (ramaḍān, literally scorching heat). Cognate with Sylheti ꠞꠝꠎꠣꠘ (romzan), Assamese ৰমজান (romzan), Odia ରମଜାନ (rômôjanô), Hindustani رَمْضَان (ramzān) / रमज़ान (ramzān), Gujarati રમજાન (ramjān), Punjabi ਰਮਜ਼ਾਨ (ramzān). Marathi रमजान (ramjān).
