From Sanskrit दिव्य (divya, agreeable; celestial; magical; etc); possibly via Old Khmer dibya (celestial, divine; magical, supernatural; excellent, magnificent; etc). Compare Pali dibba, from which Thai ทิพ (típ) is derived. Cognate with Modern Khmer ទិព្វ (tɨp).
