Etymology[edit]

Literally "letting [someone] know." The (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb ()らせる (shiraseru, to inform, to let someone know), itself the causative form of verb 知る (shiru, to know).[1][2]
