Glyph origin[edit]

Etymology 1[edit]

Schussler (2007) relates it to (OC *kʰʷaŋ), (OC *qoːns), (OC *qon), & (OC *qʷaŋʔ). Allofams are possibly (OC *ɡʷlaː), (OC *qrol, *qrolʔ), and (OC *qoːwʔ, *qrow, *qrowʔ), which Coblin (1986) (apud Schuessler, 2007) considers as cognate to Tibetan ཡོ་བ (yo ba, oblique, aslant), གཡོ་བ (g.yo ba, tilt), གཡོས (g.yos); however, see (yāo). Ratliff (2010) links it with Proto-Hmong-Mien *qʷuw (far).
