Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 다티〮다〮 (Yale: tàthí-tá). Possibly from (tah-, to touch) +‎ (-thi-, emphatic suffix).

Originally appears in the meaning "to touch, to disturb, to bump against". Appears as "to get injured" from the 17th century.
