Of native Korean origin. From 서— (seo-, “to stand”) + —이 (-i) + —로 (-ro).

- Phonetic hangul: [세(ː)로]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
