Etymology[edit]
From γλῠ́φω (glúphō, “I carve”) + -της (-tēs, suffix forming masculine agent nouns). The stem of γλῠ́φω (glúphō) also occurs without aspiration, as γλῠπ- (glup-), in the verb’s third-person singular mediopassive indicative perfect – γέγλῠπται, ἔγλῠπται (gégluptai, égluptai) – and pluperfect – ἐγέγλῠπτο, ἔγλῠπτο (egéglupto, églupto) – forms.
