Etymology

Related to ζώννυμι (zṓnnumi, to gird); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *yeh₃s-neh₂, from the root *yeh₃s- (gird). Compare Russian пояснь (pojasnʹ), Sanskrit रास्ना (rā́snā) (< *yā́snā).[1][2]
