[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *pʰuláťťō, equal to φῠ́λᾰξ (phŭ́lăx, “watcher, guard”) + *-ϳω (*-jō). Further etymology is unknown. According to Beekes, both words are likely Pre-Greek.[1]
