    Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *bʰuH-tís. By surface analysis, φῠ́ω (phŭ́ō, grow) +‎ -σῐς (-sĭs). Compare Proto-Slavic *bytь (essence; culture) and Sanskrit भूति (bhūti, existence, being; form; might, power, prosperity; fortune).[1]
