Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Slovene Kranj, from Proto-Slavic *Korňь, borrowed from Latin Carnium, from Carnī, the name of a Celtic tribe, probably from Proto-Celtic *karnos (cairn), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥h₂-nó-s (head, top; horn).[1]
