From Снегу́рка (Snegúrka, Snow Maiden) +‎ -ка (-ka), from снег (sneg, snow) +‎ -у́рка (-úrka), a rare diminutive suffix for females; compare дочу́рка (dočúrka), diminutive of дочь (dočʹ, daughter).
