Ket
[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Yeniseian *bagʌ (“block of wood”).[1][2]
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]бак ~ баг (bāk) n (plural бакӈ)
Usage notes
[edit]- Central and Northern Ket varieties use баге (bāke) instead.
Etymology 2
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Ketic *-bʌk (“pull, drag on ground”, verb base),[3][4] with parallels seen in distantly related Kott (Kott bapujaŋ (“I pull.”)).[5][6]
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]бак ([l²]-bak⁰) (conjugation I)
Usage notes
[edit]- бак is among a numerable amount of verbs in the Ket language that display pseudo-suppletivism, where the b- initials of the root morphemes in select configurations, sometimes irregularly, shift into k- initial variants (in this case, -bak⁰ turns into -kak⁰.)
