From Proto-Slavic *uxo, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *auš-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ous-. Compare Russian у́хо ‎(úxo) and Ukrainian ву́хо ‎(vúxo). Cognate with Old Armenian ունկն ‎(unkn), Gothic 𐌰𐌿𐍃𐍉 ‎(ausō), Ancient Greek οὖς ‎(oûs), Latin auris, Modern Persian گوش ‎(guš).
