From Proto-Slavic *uxo, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *auš-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ows-. Compare Russian у́хо (úxo) and Ukrainian ву́хо (vúxo). Cognate with Old Armenian ունկն (unkn), Gothic 𐌰𐌿𐍃𐍉 (ausō), Ancient Greek οὖς (oûs), Latin auris, Modern Persian گوش(guš).
