Etymology

From дво́йка (dvójka) +‎ -ник (-nik). The Russian Empire and the USSR used and some post-Soviet states, including Russia, use a five-point academic grading system where два (dva, two, number 2) is a failing grade denoting a significant lack of knowledge of the subject.
