Russian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

  • From за (za) (behind) + муж (muž) (husband), lit. "behind the husband". The form муж is used instead of the modern accusative case, мужа, because замуж fossilized well before the masculine, animate accusative case had been suppleted by the genitive.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ˈzamʊʂ]
  • (file)
