Russian

[edit]

Noun

[edit]

звѣзда́ (zvězdáf inan (genitive звѣзды́, nominative plural звѣ̈зды, genitive plural звѣ̈здъ)

  1. Pre-1918 spelling of звезда́ (zvezdá).

Usage notes

[edit]
  • звѣзда́ (zvězdá) is one of the few Russian terms in pre-1918 orthography in which a stressed ѣ () is pronounced like the letter ё (jo). It is therefore written with a diaeresis in a similar fashion: ѣ̈ (). Note that this only occurs in certain inflections.
