Inherited from Proto-Ketic *itej (“knowing”, infinitive verb).[1] Also compare Ket итам (it⁷-[l²]-am⁰, “S. knows, S. is able to”).

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /⁵itej/, [i˩˧tɛʝ˧˩]

Verb

[edit]

итей (ítej) (action nominal)

  1. knowing, the act of knowing; can, could, the act of being able to (do something)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • This term is only recorded for Central and Northern Ket varieties, being absent from Southern Ket material. This term survives in Southern Ket only via derived terms, as in Ket итлян (ítlan, “unknown, unfamiliar”).
