Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Ketic *k-a (cut, verb base),[1] derived from Proto-Yeniseian *kʰ (thematic consonant) + Proto-Yeniseian *xaʌŋ ~ *xaej (slice into, infinitive verb).

The full stem is found in Ket хаӷей (hákej, cutting, action nominal, verb), with a nominal element attached, Proto-Yeniseian *pʰadʲ (flat surface).
