From Old Turkic čibin / čïbun "fly", from Proto-Turkic *čɨ̄pɨn ‎(fly).

Cognate with Kazakh шыбын ‎(şıbın), Kyrgyz чымын ‎(çımın), Karachay-Balkar чибин ‎(çibin), Uzbek chivin, Crimean Tatar çibin, Turkish cibin ‎(fly) .
