From Proto-Turkic *toŋ (“frozen; frost”).[1]

Cognate with Kyrgyz тоң (toŋ, “frost, frozen”), Turkish don (“frost”), Tuvan доң (doñ, “frozen”), Yakut тоҥ (toñ, “frozen”), Chuvash тӑм (tăm, “frost”).

    Because the winter has been without snow, soil is frozen, water cannot get absorbed into soil, this is why rivers flood.
