      Inherited from Proto-Ketic *pʰaˤtʌ (thick, dense, adjective), in turn derived from Proto-Yeniseian *pʰadʲ (flat surface; pressed close) with the *-ʌŋ (adjectival suffix) appended, which makes it related to the etymology above.[2]
