Mongolian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *käräk (necessity), from earlier *kärgäk.
Some senses might be from *хэрэх (*xerex) +‎ (-g), with unattested *хэрэх (*xerex) being also the root of хэрүүл (xerüül, quarrel) and хэрэлдэх (xereldex, to quarrel).
