From Proto-Slavic *čexati. Expressive variant of чеса́ти (česáty).[1] Compare Belarusian чу́хаць (čúxacʹ).

  1. (transitive) to scratch (to rub a surface with a sharp object, especially by a living creature to remove itching with nails, claws, etc.)
