From Proto-Turkic *yōl (“road, way”).
Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰖𐰆𐰞 (y¹ul¹ /yol/, “road, way”), Southern Altai јол (ǰol), Kazakh жол (jol), Kyrgyz жол (jol), Karachay-Balkar джол (col), Uzbek yoʻl, Turkish yol, Yakut суол (suol), etc.
