Etymology[edit]

From *qara- (to look), probably borrowed from Middle Mongol,[1] from Proto-Mongolic *kara- (to look).[2]

Cognate with Kazakh қарау (qarau, to look), Kyrgyz кара- (kara-, to look), Southern Altai кара- (kara-, to look), Uzbek qaramoq (to look), Uyghur قارىماق (qarimaq, to look), Khakas хара- (xara-, to look).
