From the Middle Iranian cognate of Old Persian *Arta-bānu(the glory of Arta). The Iranian name has been transliterated into Ancient Greek as Ἀρταβάνης(Artabánēs), Ἀρτάβανος(Artábanos), into Latin as Artabanus.
