Etymology[edit]

Certainly a borrowing, but the exact origin is unknown. The name was borne by the Roman virgin St. Rhipsime martyred in Armenia. In the Middle Ages confused with the unrelated name Հոռոմ ‎(Hoṙom), which lead to hybrids like Հոռոմսիմ ‎(Hoṙomsim), etc.
